A short story I like to tell about not ‘assuming’ you know someone’s expertise too quickly. Most every year at Pubcon, Bill begins his presentations without any ‘lead up’. He doesn’t say he’s been optimizing websites since blah blah ;-) or that he is THE Google patent authority, or that he has a legal background, or that he’s been a respected member of the SEO community for many years. He just says hi, I’m Bill Slawski, and delves, without flair or fanfare, into some fantastic information he’s discovered. At this point, inevitably, several newbies get up to leave the room. To me, several give off the vibe of “nothing to learn here”. Wrong assumptions... there’s always a few folks like Bill, respected experts in their fields who don’t need all the bells and whistles... never ‘assume’ too quickly with this type, you may be missing out big time. Hoping your recovery is full and speedy Bill :-)
