I met Bill at Search Engine Strategies, the conference series started by Danny Sullivan. Bill's infectious smile and laugh helped put me at ease, even though I felt way, way out of my depth. As a scared, 20-something kid who's barely scraping by, having the support and kindness of someone like Bill (who was already well-respected in the field) meant a ton.

Over the years, Bill and I have run into each other at loads more events, shared meals, drinks, emails, conversations, and he's been an unflagging source of thoughtful, nuanced approaches to digital marketing, but far more importantly, a kind and caring human being.
